For the past 8 years, the La Morena program has showcased the work of women farmers across Guatamala. Started in 2016 with 4 producers and a dream, La Morena has grown to feature coffee from 23 women-owned farms and is well on its way to empowering more women in a male-dominated industry.
In 2023, over 800 women farmers span the coffee-growing regions of Huehuetenango and Baja Verapaz. What started as a micro-lot of about 2,000 lbs of coffee has blossomed into a platform that strongly addresses gender inequality in coffee.
This coffee is incredibly mellow and subtle. Rich notes of dark chocolate, fig and red currant can almost certainly be attributed to Guatemala's unique mountainous growing regions and rich soil due to immense volcanic activity.
